Daria moved to Canada from Iran when she was just a little girl. After a recent incident at work, she feels insecure in her ability to speak in Farsi, leading her to take an "Intro to Farsi" class at a community centre. Strangely, she is the only person in attendance. Throughout the class, she is reminded of her childhood and starts to connect with her culture for the first time in years.
Mandana is the instructor of the intro to Farsi class. She encourages Daria to regain her confidence in speaking the language, insisting that as long as she is trying, that is all that matters. In reality, Mandana is the spirit of Daria's grandmother who has returned to help her, sensing Daria's loss of connection to her culture. Mandana looks just how Daria remembers from her childhood.
