About the project: "A Rez Noir" is a punchy and fun homage to the noir genre, but we are INDIGENIZING IT, BABY! Set on a reserve, we follow the gritty, no-nonsense detective as he solves yet another mystery, and this time, the stakes are life and death. Dames, Rex cops, bepsi and frybread, no distraction is too big to keep him from finding the truth. Rate: Non-Union. Volunteer project, cast will be fed and costuming will be provided. The Detective is the heart of the story. Should have the comedic chops to pull off a classic Noir Detective cadence with humor. He is a serious man with a serious plan. He is a somewhat tortured man haunted by the one case he cannot solve: the disappearance of his love, Anna. He only has two objectives: solve mysteries, and look cool doing it.
The Dame is the antagonist of the story. Beautiful, cunning, and deadly, she knows how to manipulate to get what she wants. The Dame has a very central role and should be reminiscent of the Noir dames of classic films. Her objective is to be moved up the housing registry by any means necessary.
Jon is the victim of the mystery. He's exactly the kind of guy you'd see sitting outside the rez gas station. Should have a Gary Farmer vibe. He is stubborn, cheesy, and just wants to eat his bag of chips in front of the TV.
Concord is the rez cop and The Detective's man on the inside. He takes his job way less seriously than he takes his role as an active member of his community. He's a good guy, but must have an edge to deal with the realities of rez life. He's also a notorious cheat at bingo. A man who cares about the place he calls home, even if he has a funny way of dealing with it. Think Zahn McClarnon in rez dogs.
