About the project: A witty, behind-the-scenes comedy about the making of Jaws. Trapped on a boat while the mechanical shark continually breaks down, actors Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, and Roy Scheider grapple with artistic ego, clashing personalities, and the absurdity of Hollywood. Set in 1974 on the deck of the Orca, The Shark is Broken blends fact and fiction, humor and humanity. Diversity, equity, and inclusion-conscious casting are the lifeblood of theatre. As such, we encourage, enable, and celebrate all people auditioning to consider the character that speaks to them, regardless of race, ethnicity, color, religion, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation or attractionality, national origin, age, disability, and/or genetic information. Additional info: No memorized monologues are needed. Auditioners will be asked to read from the sides provided. They may also be asked to do cold readings from the script and some physical movement. Rehearsals start Tuesday, February 24, (read-through) at 6:30 PM at the Toledo Rep lobby. The play runs April 24-May 3, 2026. If interested, please apply.
