Happy Endings is a dark, dry-humoured exploration of romantic obsession and the thin line between fantasy and reality. The story follows Em (21), a socially awkward young woman who falls in love easily—mostly in her own head—as she navigates a series of "ethereal" romantic fantasies and the "gritty" reality of a relationship with Derek (22). There may also be a short fun dance sequence for Em, Derek, Nurse, and Attractive Man, so an ability to move and a willingness to learn a dance (jazz style) would be amazing but not mandatory!

Em struggles with loneliness and desperation. Her outward appearance is kind, quiet, silly, and tragically socially-awkward. Her voice-over reveals her inner, darker thoughts. She deeply craves romantic connection and will do anything to get it. After somehow enticing her attractive classmate Derek, he asks her out. Em realizes, however, that maybe romance isn’t everything she thought it would be, and she slowly reaches her breaking point with Derek. Preferably red or dark hair.
A self-obsessed, attractive, and arrogant young man. After being partnered with Em on an assignment, he finds her awkwardness somewhat endearing and asks her out. To Derek, Em is just a body --- and object to show off and have sex with. He seems completely oblivious to the fact that he’s slowly wearing Em down and bringing her to her breaking point.
A fun, caring young man who tends to Em after an accident. He finds her odd sense of humour rather charming and makes a move on her.
An attractive man that Em runs into on the street. He immediately turns on the charm, flattering the awe-struck Em.
A young man in love with his girlfriend. They’re a fun young couple that can find humour in anything.
