11 roles

CADYFemale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

To play late teens. A new student at North Shore High School, Cady grew up in Africa and was homeschooled by her wildlife biologist parents. She is warm, curious, and extremely intelligent. Taking on The Plastics becomes an exhilarating game of chess for her - after all, this social hierarchy gives her a clear structure she can buy into while she’s still finding her place in this new, confusing world.

REGINAFemale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

To play late teens. Regina is the founder and leader of The Plastics. Every trend at North Shore High starts with her. She is regal, calculated, and a master of the social game of chess, but at her most vulnerable moments, she’s just another teenage girl facing all the complexities that come with adolescence. When you’re in with her, life is good, but she’s a fearsome enemy nobody wants to have.

JANISFemale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

To play late teens. A self-proclaimed art freak, activist, and social outcast, Janis is not afraid to be weird or make others uncomfortable - she is unapologetically herself in every way. Even though she touts herself as an objective observer, she has a real chip on her shoulder when it comes to her explosive past with Regina. She’s hoping that Cady will be the third musketeer with her and Damian to make their own lovable weirdo version of The Anti Plastics.

DAMIANMale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

To play late teens. Almost too gay to function. Outgoing, fun, and well-versed on the ins and outs of North Shore High’s social scene, Damian is a fiercely loyal friend to Janis, and a welcoming presence to Cady on her first day. He loves a big spectacle and is always looking for an excuse to make life more like a Broadway musical (full of dance breaks, of course). Probably chronically online.

GRETCHENFemale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

To play late teens. One of The Plastics. The ultimate people pleaser, Gretchen is constantly trying to anticipate Regina’s wants and meet Regina’s sky-high expectations. In order to survive the vicious high school food chain, she’s become a transactional social butterfly - she befriends people to learn their secrets only to trade them later for her own benefit. Somewhere within her, there’s someone kinder and more confident waiting to come out, but that version of Gretchen isn’t quite ready yet.

KARENFemale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

To play late teens. One of The Plastics. Karen is coasting through life pretty unbothered - she’s kind, easy-going, and trusting. Probably the most approachable of The Plastics. May or may not have ESPN or something - her breasts can always tell when it's going to rain. She places a lot of value in her looks. While many things may go over her head, every once in a while, she’s deeply profound (though these moments are few and far between).

AARONMale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

To play late teens. Definitely a man written by a woman - he’s not only cute but has a good moral compass and a backbone. A jock with a heart of gold. He’s authentic in a way that not many allow themselves to be at this age, and he remains more curious about life than many of his peers. He’s not immune to all the female attention he gets, but he’s not going to let himself be a pawn in their chess game either.

MRS. HERON / MS. NORBURY / MRS. GEORGEFemale30-59 y.o.All ethnicities

Mrs. Heron is Cady’s wildlife biologist mom who can’t understand why her daughter is devolving so rapidly right before her eyes. Ms. Norbury is Cady’s world-weary Calculus teacher who pushes Cady to be her truest and smartest self. Mrs. George is Regina’s “cool mom.” She’s desperate to look young and feel like she’s one of the girls. She’s also desperate for Regina not to repeat her mistakes.

MR. DUVALLMale30-59 y.o.African-American

The principal of North Shore High. Mr. Duvall may have once taught computers to inmates at Old Joliet Prison, but nothing could have prepared him for the harsh realities of out-of-control high school girls. In fact, if he’s being honest, he’d really rather go back to teaching inmates.

KEVIN G.Male18-25 y.o.Indian/South Asian

To play late teens. Kevin is the extremely driven captain of the North Shore Mathletes. He believes he’s the raddest kid in school, which may or may not be true, but hey, at least he thinks he is. When he’s not competing with the Mathletes, he’s probably recording pretty decent rap singles on SoundCloud.

ENSEMBLEBoth genders18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

To play late teens. For the most part, the students of North Shore High School. They range from varsity jocks to rich stoners, from sexually active band geeks to members of the debate team, from show choir kids to the uncool mathletes. At times, they’re just as unruly as the wild animals Cady grew up watching in Kenya. Strong singers and dancers.
