About the project: Where I Call Home follows Kai, a 20-year-old Asian Canadian youth living with his mentally ill mother holding together the last threads of his collapsing family. His mother, suffering from severe mental illness, can no longer work or care for herself. With their savings gone and bills piling up, Kai juggles school, a part-time job at a boxing gym, and mounting student loans. Kai’s part time job at his boxing gym, as well as the student loans he’s put on aren’t enough to keep him and his mother afloat, so he must resort to crime, working with his loyal and hardened childhood friend, Traye. Out of desperation, he joins his childhood friend Traye on a criminal job that spirals into tragedy, leaving Kai grieving, guilt-ridden, and at a crossroads. In the aftermath, Kai must decide whether to stay trapped in the cycle that destroyed his friend or walk away forever in search of a better life. Looking for: Strong natural charisma; Great comedic timing + ability to shift into dramatic stakes; Warm, playful energy - someone who lights up a scene; Athletic or physically confident; Strong chemistry with the actor playing Kai. Tone Reference: Think youthful charm, humor, confidence, and heart - like The Fresh Prince, but grounded in the dramatic world of the film. Must be able to pick up fight choreography. BOXING/FIGHTING EXPERIENCE PREFERRED. Traye is a boxer, cool, charismatic. Traye brings humor, energy, charisma, and unpredictable intensity. He hides insecurity behind bravado, loyalty, and street smarts. Looking for an athletic Actor with strong comedic timing and natural charisma. Bring strong emotional range for dramatic scenes.
