About the project: A cunning mentalist, Chaz Luberman, claims he is able to “read minds” by analyzing their body language, and appears on a podcast to achieve fame and glory, only to be met with skepticism from the aggressive host, Mark, leading to a screaming match and a police interrogation where Chaz must prove that his abilities are real by exploiting Officer Shaw’s troubled family life. Rate: Non-Union. This is an explicitly volunteer, unpaid project—no monetary compensation. The Volunteer will receive craft services on set, gain fun and hands-on film production experience, and be eligible for on-screen credit if services are completed satisfactorily. A true believer in justice and law enforcement. He doesn’t believe mentalism is anything more than cheap party tricks, but he finds Chaz and his shtick entertaining, so he allows Chaz to perform for him and explain himself. With every word Chaz says in his defence, Officer Shaw starts to see through Chaz’s persona and eventually confronts him about the moral, ethical and legal complications his profession entails.
A bitter, cynical man whose sole goal is to prove that Chaz and everything he stands for is a complete pile of crap. He questions everything, every small movement, every word Chaz says, he does not let anything slip. He is the worst participant a magician could possibly ask for. He believes that Chaz is exploiting people, lying to them about magical abilities in order to profit from manipulating the public’s belief.
Mark’s naïve podcast co-host. She is fascinated with the idea and concept of mentalism and thinks Chaz’s persona is incredibly exciting. She represents the average person obsessed with magic and mentalism. She loves tricks being performed on her and believes it’s all harmless fun. She doesn’t see anything wrong with what Chaz is doing and truly believes he can read her mind.
