Casting Actors Living History Project
Looking for talent able to perform older voices in a southern African American dialect for Living History show. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: This installation reanimates the narratives of African Americans interviewed in the 1930s United States Federal Writers Project “Born into Slavery,” a vast archive of over 2,500 first-hand accounts by African American elders who experienced enslavement as children. Breeze excavates these stories to create a living memory of embodied ritual, ancestral witness, and monumental presence. Set inside a towering Baobab-inspired textile column; woven from cotton gauze, the work blends performance, storytelling, sound, and archival materials into an evocative multi-sensory experience. Rates: This is a limited budget project. ( with active fundraising to develop the project further). All final selected readers will be credited by name, will retain rights to their voices, and compensation will be provided at a flat rate of ¢.10/per word (average $100-$200 per narration) ~approx $100/hr. Additional info: Selected participants will record excerpts from the historical narratives and testimonies of African American elders in the WPA "Born into Slavery" archive.
