Singing Audition for "Magpie’s Song" Play

About the project: Magpie's Song was written by Lincoln native, Zeph Siebler, and is an operatic pop musical centered around three myths. In "A Festival in Conflagration," a painter conjures up memories of a deadly fire in her newest painting, calling into question who really lit the match and what it means to be a monster. In "River of Stars," a mortal spends a day with the daughter of the Celestial Emperor, and they have to decide what's worth sacrificing to live out a star-crossed love. In "Ten Suns," an archer comes out of retirement to stop a catastrophic drought, only to find himself caught at the center of a struggle for the chance of eternal life. Magpie's Song explores the primal need humans have to explain the world through storytelling. Additional info: Callbacks are Saturday, December 13th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and will consist of vocals & movement. Actors ages should bring a prepared vocal solo of 32 bars in the style of contemporary musical theatre or a pop/rock song that best showcases singing and storytelling, such as Stephen Schwartz and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Since Magpie's Song is all music, please choose a song with an emotional arc or that tells a story. In the show, actors will be acting through the music and lyrics. Bring sheet music.
