"American Idiot" Musical in Need of Performers

About the project: Green Day’s American Idiot is a high-octane rock opera that follows three lifelong friends—Johnny, Tunny, and Will—as they search for meaning in a post-9/11 world. Fueled by punk rebellion, heartbreak, and the desire to break free, this Tony Award–winning musical features hit songs from Green Day’s landmark album American Idiot and beyond, including: “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “21 Guns,” “Holiday,” and “Jesus of Suburbia.” The result is an electrifying theatrical experience that captures the rage, love, and restlessness of a generation. Additional info: Auditioners are asked to prepare 16–32 bars of a song in the style of the show. Accompaniment will be provided. Performers who play guitar are strongly encouraged to bring their instruments to auditions—especially for Johnny, Will, and Tunny. If you plan to demonstrate your guitar skills, please be prepared to accompany yourself singing in addition to your audition piece. Guitar skills are a plus but not required. Tenor, D3–B4. Disillusioned and idealistic, he enlists in the army searching for purpose. Sensitive and sincere, his journey moves from despair to transcendence. Guitar skills encouraged but not required.
Baritenor, C3–A4. The friend who stays behind. Sarcastic and bitter, trapped in complacency as life moves on without him. Guitar skills encouraged but not required.
(Male or nonbinary) — High Baritenor/Rock Tenor, C3–F♯5. A seductive, anarchic, and destructive force—part idol, part addiction, part alter ego. “An angel face with a taste for suicide.” Electrifying presence with commanding energy and dangerous charisma.
Mezzo-Soprano with belt, F3–D5. Johnny’s lover and conscience. Fierce, politically aware, and emotionally grounded—embodies rebellion and heartbreak.
Mezzo-Soprano, A3–E5. Will’s girlfriend and eventual mother of his child. Represents both stability and disillusionment. Grounded and empathetic yet unafraid to claim her independence.
Mezzo-Soprano, A3–E5. A dreamlike figure of grace and healing who helps Tunny rediscover hope. Poised, ethereal, and strong.
Tenor, C3–B4. An all-American military icon. The golden poster boy of patriotism who becomes a haunting symbol of propaganda. Requires striking physical presence.
