Jacob is losing his battle with cancer, and he is angry about dying. He is a former high school football star who is now withering away. He desperately wants to live, as he sees his friends' lives move on without him.
Shannon takes care of people, always putting others before herself. She raised two boys as a single mom, and she works at a rural hospital as a nurse. She's behind on her bills because she's been taking care of Jacob. She feels guilty about the life she can't give him.
(Mid 20's). Jacob's older brother. Landon moved away from their small town after high school. He works odd jobs and parties with his friends. He doesn't come home much; he drinks instead.
A man of God, he thinks it is important to comfort Jacob and bring him close to God in his final days. He is a pillar of the community, and a good-natured person.
A grim figure who stalks Jacob's nightmares. She is a crow-like woman who appears to usher Jacob into his transformation.
