ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Seeking male and female performers for production of "The Wizard of Oz". Please, see the details below. About the play: When a tornado sweeps young Dorothy Gale over the rainbow, she lands in the magical land of Oz. Joined by a Scarecrow, a Tin Man, and a Cowardly Lion, Dorothy sets off on a grand adventure down the Yellow Brick Road to try and find the mysterious Wizard of Oz – the only one who can send her back home to Kansas. But the Wicked Witch of the West has other plans for her. Featuring iconic songs and wonderfully vibrant characters, The Wizard of Oz celebrates the enduring power of friendship, bravery, and believing in oneself, and warmly reminds us that in the end, there really is no place like home. DOROTHY GALEFemale18-22 y.o.All ethnicities

She/Her. Vocal Range: G3-C5 (opt. E5) A young and sprightly girl, Dorothy lives with her aunt and uncle on the bleak Kansas prairie. She is energetic and anxious, but finds confidence and courage on her journey through Oz. Her best friend is her dog, Toto. This role will require interacting with a dog, and may require flying.

AUNT EM/GLINDAFemale30-59 y.o.All ethnicities

She/Her. Vocal Range: G3-C5. AUNT EM – A care-worn woman, kind and practical. Working the farm with her husband and raising their niece, Dorothy. A plain speaking, down-to-earth, though loving being.

GLINDAFemale30-59 y.o.All ethnicities

Glinda seems to be the only “good witch” in Oz of any consequence. She knows the power of the Ruby Slippers but withholds this knowledge from Dorothy, in order to facilitate her psychological and emotional maturity. A twinkle in her eye – like she always has a secret. This role may require flying.

UNCLE HENRY/EMERALD CITY GUARDMale30-69 y.o.All ethnicities

He/Him. Vocal Range: Bb2-Eb4. UNCLE HENRY – Dorothy’s Uncle. He is an honest, hardworking man who owns a small farm. He is kind and also cares a great deal about Dorothy. Very likeable older man. EMERALD CITY GUARD – Guards the entrances to the City of Oz and the Wizard’s Chamber. Gets befuddled, trying to be efficient. A bit puffed up but is a “softy” inside.

HUNK/THE SCARECROWMale20-49 y.o.All ethnicities

He/Him. Vocal Range: Bb2-F#4 (opt. Ab4). HUNK – A farmhand on the farm, Hunk is Dorothy’s best friend next to Toto. He doesn’t think he’s very smart but, though his ideas are hit and miss, he’s not dumb by any means. SCARECROW – Rescued by Dorothy from a farmer’s field, the Scarecrow’s greatest wish is to procure brains for himself from the Wizard of Oz. Despite his perceived lack of brains, the Scarecrow is exceedingly intelligent and resourceful.

HICKORY/THE TINMANMale30-59 y.o.All ethnicities

He/Him. Vocal Range: Bb2-G4. HICKORY – A farmhand on the Gale property. Thinks of himself as a bit of a strong man. Cares about Dorothy and is heartbroken when she blames him for letting Miss Gulch take Toto away. TINMAN – Rescued by Dorothy after rusting in the forest, the Tinman desires a heart from the Wizard of Oz. He used to be a real man but due to the Wicked Witch of the East’s evil spell, he became a man of tin without a heart.

ZEKE/THE COWARDLY LIONMale20-59 y.o.All ethnicities

He/Him. Vocal Range: Bb2-F4. ZEKE – A farmhand on the Gale property. Protective and kind, he encourages Dorothy to stick up for herself. But while a big talker, he is easily frightened himself. THE LION – The Lion encounters Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Man in the forest. He claims to be a coward and wishes for the Wizard of Oz to give him courage. However, he proves himself courageous in many situations throughout the journey.

PROFESSOR CHESTER MARVEL/THE WIZARD OF OZMale50-79 y.o.All ethnicities

He/Him. Vocal Range: any. PROFESSOR MARVEL – The fortune teller who Dorothy meets when she runs away. He encourages her to return home. He’s an old-time showman, perhaps a bit past his prime. THE WIZARD OF OZ – The Wizard who helps her to return to Kansas from Oz. A con man with heart.

MISS GULCH/THE WICKED WITCH OF THE WESTFemale30-59 y.o.All ethnicities

She/Her. Vocal Range: any. MISS GULCH – A neighbor of the Gales. She is rich, entitled, and a bit of a bully who uses the law to make others do what she wants, no matter who gets hurt (i.e. Toto). An unhappy person who has probably never known love, so does not know how to give love to others. THE WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST- A comic villain. An independent woman who knows what she wants and won’t stop until she gets it. But she’s witty with a rather modern sense of humor.
