Singing Audition in the Musical "Little Women"

ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Directors are currently in need of talent for musical "Little Women". More details are below. About the musical: The year is 1860, hoop skirts, and propriety abound! Little Women the Musical is an adaptation of the book that is Ms. Alcott's love letter to her youth, and her sisters. Jo March provides us a looking glass into the “mundane” letting us realize that it is anything but. Additional information: Location: Stony Plain, AB. Please come to auditions with 1 chorus and 1 verse of your favorite song, and then learn one song from the list below. You can bring your phone for accompaniment and directors will have a speaker you can connect to. Please be prepared to learn minor choreography. Sides will be provided once you sign up for you to rehearse with. Rehearsals will start with 2-3 nights a week, with our first night being a Little Women watch party and read through. Directors will be starting with music, and line retention. Fringe show runs will be given priority for the 10 days in August and those in shows will be excused, with the possibility of pausing rehearsals all together. Please, see the attachment. Lead role. Jo - a tomboy at heart, a feminist of the 1800’s. Jo lacks pretence for womanly grace and rebels against social expectations, but within her limits. She is a dreamer, an author, filled with passion, and vision. Seemingly untouchable, she is vulnerable, like many young women she is contrary, with room for growth.

Amy March/Rodrigo 2Female18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

Female (this role has intimacy work). Amy - now a graceful young woman and a wife, she has come into her own, She let go of childish notions replaced by grace, introspection, and humility. Rodrigo 2 - The final hero in Jo’s sensational stories.

Meg March/ClarissaFemale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

Meg - the oldest sister, she is "second mother”, but she still likes to play. Growing into a woman of the late 1800’s, she is excited to go through all the rights and rituals, and all that goes with it. Including falling in love, being married and all the romanticized privileges that come with it. Clarissa - the damsel in Jo’s sensational stories.

Beth March/ClarissaFemale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

Beth - the heart of the family, perceived as pure love, the anxiety disorder is over looked and she is dismissed as “shy”. She is quiet, and people seem pass her by. She is a river, you can’t see what is going on under the surface, but she can change the landscape of a mood, or her family without the blunt force that Jo would use. Clarissa - the damsel in Jo’s sensational stories.

Marmee MarchFemale30-45 y.o.All ethnicities

Marmee is the mother of the 4 girls, and is patient, wise, and exudes warmth. A socialist with a charitable nature, she like her husband would give their last dollar to help the less fortunate. Remaining pius, she lets her girls “come into their own” at their own pace, never judging and always striving for peace.

Theadore Laurence/Rodrigo 1Male18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

(This role has intimacy work) Laurie - has fallen in love with the March family on the whole. A boy who lost his parents, and is now living with his grandfather as he tries to atone for his past sins with his own children. To that end, Laurie feels stifled, and the March girls and Marmee are his breath.

Mr. Laurence/KnightMale45-60 y.o.All ethnicities

Mr. Laurence - a frightening enigma, until they get to know him. He is a man making sure he does not repeat the sins of the past with Laurie - vexing as he is. A wealthy older man, looking for the opportunity to love and be loved, he Becomes a constant, and amazing friend to the March family. Knight - a knight down on his luck in Jo’s sensational stories.

Aunt March/HagFemale25-50 y.o.All ethnicities

Aunt March is the sister of the father of the March girls. A wealthy older spinster, desperate to help the family be supported by way of marriage, she takes on the March girls to fulfill that end. She is cold, calculated and undeterred, but that is all a facade, as she cares deeply, is lonely, and ultimately would not let the disappointment in her brother’s detrimentally charitable nature leave the March’s penniless. Hag - An old witch in Jo’s sensational stories.

Mr. Brooke/BraxtonMale18-25 y.o.All ethnicities

Mr. Brooke - the humble tutor of Laurie, grateful for the employment by Mr. Laurence, he strives to reign in the rebellious Laurie, with no help from the March girls. A timid man to wealth, but a man none the less, he falls in love with Meg with conviction that he will be able to support and lead their own little family. Braxton - the ultimate Villian in Jo’s sensational stories.

Mrs. KirkFemale20-45 y.o.All ethnicities

She is a New York woman running a boarding house with 2 girls. She is tough, but fair! She makes a home, but this home is her business, and as we all know there are only so many ways a lady can make money in this day and age.

Professor Bhaer/TrollMale25-40 y.o.All ethnicities

(This role has intimacy work) Professor Bhaer is a German immigrant, with responsibilities. He is eccentric, honest, and obviously smart. He unwittingly has Jo fall for him, while he falls for her. The age difference and his financial status make him never believe that he would ever be an option for Jo. He is genuine, kind and somewhat proud of his heritage, though a realist. Troll - a troll in Jo’s sensational stories.
