Casting Call for "If You Stare, Smile" PSA

Vancouver, BC, Canada
ID: 281376Exp: 3/20/2025
Description:

ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Directors are currently in need of three actors with visibly apparent disabilities to help bring this message to life in upcoming PSA "If You Stare, Smile". See the details below. About the project: This short piece explores the societal issue of staring, specifically how it affects persons with disabilities. While staring is often an instinctive reaction, it can also lead to feelings of being "othered." The goal of this PSA is to encourage a simple shift in behavior: redirecting the response of staring into a shared smile. Much like how they’ve all learned to cough into the elbows, this piece aims to reshape a common reflex into something that fosters understanding and connection. By recognizing this natural response while addressing its impact, directors hope to lessen the discomfort for those on the receiving end and create a more inclusive social environment. The set will accommodate all physical and sensory requirements. Rate: Non-Union. Volunteer project. Additional information: Shoot/Performance Date(s) March 29th 2025. The project will involve: 1 day of location filming 1 day of voice work in a recording studio. The production team is committed to ensuring that the set is accessible and inclusive, accommodating all physical and sensory requirements. Submission Deadline March 20, 2025. When applying, please submit Head shots Reel (if available) If no reel, send a one-minute video introducing yourself or sharing what a typical weekend looks like for you.
