About the project: Synopsis: When Nina enters her first air guitar competition, she thinks winning will be easy. But as she befriends a group of charismatic nerds all committed to becoming the next champion, she discovers that there's more to this art form than playing pretend; it's about finding yourself in your favorite songs, and performing with raw joy. Will Nina be able to let go and set herself free onstage? Following her mission to shred or be shredded, Airness is an exuberant reminder that everything we need to rock is already inside us. A comedy about competition, completion, and finding the airness inside yourself. Additional info: Audition Details: Please prepare a 1 min rockin’ guitar solo you can AIR GUITAR to! Then, directors will have you try out 1 min from a random solo of their choice! The show is based completely on Air Guitar competing which is based on three key criteria: - Technical merit: You don’t have to know what notes you’re playing, but the more your invisible fretwork corresponds to the music that’s playing, the better the performance. - Stage presence: Anyone can do it in the privacy of their bedroom. Few have what it takes to rock a crowd of hundreds or even thousands—all without an instrument. - “Airness”: The last criteria is often difficult to define yet often the most decisive of all. Airness is defined as the extent to which a performance transcends the imitation of a real guitar and becomes an artform in and of itself. After you shred, there will be cold readings from the play. Intimacy notes: Light touches and some characters kiss (listed on audition form as to avoid spoilers.) Expected rehearsal schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, and some Friday evenings. Occasional Saturday afternoon rehearsals (depending on availability). Newbie to the air guitar competing world who bonds with SHREDDY EDDY, GOLDEN THUNDER, and FACEBENDER, eventually creating a new name for herself: ‘The Nina’. As an actual guitarist in a band herself, she later on proves within herself that air guitar can be just as exciting, plus rewarding when it comes to unique friendships.
