About the project: SYNOPSIS: "Lost in Yonkers" tells the story of two young brothers, Jay and Arty, who are sent to live with their strict, formidable grandmother and their childlike, mentally unstable Aunt Bella in Yonkers, New York during the 1940s after their mother dies and their father must leave to work out of town; while navigating their challenging new home, the boys encounter their uncle Louie, a small-time mobster, and grapple with their grandmother's harsh rules while searching for a hidden stash of money that could potentially save their family from financial ruin. Additional info: Rehearsals will generally be week nights and Sunday afternoons. Please know any and all conflicts up to May 4, including weekends. Show dates: April 26, 27, May 3 and 4, 2025. Mother to Louie, Eddie, Bella, and Gert, and grandmother to Jay and Arty. She escaped Germany during the first World War and is calloused by her struggles in life, incredibly strict, and a proponent of “tough love”.
Father to Jay and Arty, and brother to Louie, Bella, and Gert. He is a loving father to his sons and is an emotional, sensitive man, tearing up and crying on multiple occasions.
Oldest son of Grandma Kurnitz. He is smooth-talking, erratic, and clearly mixed up in some crooked schemes.
Daughter of Grandma Kurnitz. She is described as, “in her mid-thirties…neat and sweet and pretty, although looking a little older than her age. She is warm and congenial as she is emotionally arrested.”
Older daughter of Grandma Kurnitz. She has a breathing condition which causes her to suck in her breath in the middle of her sentences.
