About the project: "In this Broadway hit comedy set in the 1960s, a middle-class New Jersey couple and their adult daughter take refuge in an American embassy behind the Iron Curtain when they are mistakingly suspected of spying. A cascade of comedy ensues." Additional info: General Note on Accents: Do your best attempt at the requested accent. Stay away from caricature. An asylum-seeker trapped in an American Embassy in a communist country at the height of the Cold War. In his spare time he's learned close up magic. Bring your best accent (any).
Quintessential 1960s Cold War era world leader. The Ambassador is a single dad raising a fully grown man while holding down an American embassy in the middle of a communist country.
Efficient, intelligent assistant to Ambassador Magee. Capable of running things in his absence, and managing quite well. No-nonsense with a hint of sarcasm. Accent optional.
Son of Ambassador Magee. Due to his father's position and reputation, Magee has held prestigious positions, but has royally trashed every one. He's a screw up, and everyone knows it, as his mistakes have made national news headlines. He's really trying, guys.
A 1960s American small-business owner from Newark, NJ. He's neurotic and usually assumes the worst. Dry humor with manic rants thrown in. Jersey accent preferred.
An intelligent, capable woman limited by her era. She is the only one who can manage her husband's range of emotions, and perhaps the only one who can stand him. Jersey accent preferred.
The attractive, warm, observant daughter of Walter and Marion. Her curiosity and personable nature earn her fast friends.
Communist militant leader. He is the head of the Secret Police force trapping the Hollanders in the embassy. He is cold and intimidating.
An employee of the embassy.
Takes cuisine VERY seriously. An eccentric professional, debates over food with Mr. Hollander - the American caterer from Jersey - really get under his skin in a way few other things do.
