Singing Audition for "Next to Normal" Play
The theatrical play "Next to Normal" seeks male and female singers and performers. Please see more details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. About the project: Dad’s an architect; Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal; their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet their lives are anything but normal because the mother has been battling bipolar disorder for 16 years. Next to Normal takes audiences into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family’s story with love, sympathy, and heart. Additional info: Performances: March 14-30, 2025 Please carefully include all known conflicts within your audition form, and note that any changes to availability will need to be approved after initial conflicts have been communicated. What to Prepare: Prep 32 bars, or a 1-minute cut, of any contemporary song that best shows off your vocal ability Bring sheet music with you in the key in which you plan to sing (and be sure it’s not just a melody line but is actually piano accompaniment) If you’d prefer to audition to hold your sheet music, memorization is not required (though advanced familiarity with the cut is expected) If possible, refrain from singing songs from the production itself, and from singing acapella Rehearsals: Rehearsals start Monday, January 6 and will generally take place Monday-Thursday from 6:30-9:00 p.m., and some Sundays from 12:00-3:00 p.m. (when necessary, due to weather.)
