The company is holding auditions for upcoming production of "Amélie" and looking for performers, please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. About the project: The musical Amélie is based on the 2001 French film of the same name. The musical tells the story of Amélie Poulin, a shy and imaginative Parisian woman who decides to secretly perform acts of kindness for the people around her. The musical features a captivating score while following Amélie as she discovers the power of human connection and learns to open herself up to love and friendship. It delves into Amélie's vivid inner life and fantasies, her relationship with her father, and her blossoming romance with a quirky man named Nino. Additional info: What to Prepare: 16 to 32 bars of a Broadway song that demonstrates your range. What to Bring: Headshot with resume (if you have one). Please bring sheet music for the accompanist, no backing tracks or a capella singing. You may be asked for a second selection, so please bring additional options that show a contrasting vocal or character style. A list of your conflicts for the rehearsal period. No conflicts allowed after January 13. (please be aware that conflicts may affect casting). Please note: Everyone auditioning is required to attend the dance audition portion of the evening. Please wear clothing and shoes appropriate for movement. Please arrive stretched and warmed up. IMPORTANT DATES: Rehearsals: Begin Tuesday, November 19, at 6:30PM. Rehearsals will generally be held Sundays from 10:00AM to 1:30PM and 2:00PM to 6:00PM and Monday-Thursday, 6:30PM to 10:00PM. When possible actors will not be called for both Sunday rehearsals, however there will be some full day Sunday rehearsals for actors (particularly for lead and supporting roles). Cast Orientation: Monday, November 18, 2024 at 7:00PM Tech week: Sunday, January 26 through Thursday, January 30, 2024 Performances: Friday, January 31 through Saturday, February 15. (Twelve performances total) 1st Weekend: Friday and Saturday at 7:30PM, Sunday at 2:00PM 2nd Weekend: Thursday and Friday at 7:30PM, Saturdays at 2:00PM and 7:30PM, and Sunday at 2:00PM 3rd Weekend: Thursday and Friday at 7:30PM, Saturdays at 2:00PM and 7:30PM (Closing Saturday evening.)

The ensemble of Amélie are both characters and storytellers, narrating the action in between scenes and songs. They play many roles within the story, from nuns at Notre Dame, to citizens on the streets of Paris, to carousel horses. They embody Amélie’s imaginary world and bring life to her dreams. In the original production, the ensemble roles were filled by members of the principal cast. Looking for actors of all vocal ranges, ages, and abilities.

Lives in a romantic and whimsical world in her mind, but is often too shy to let her dreams out. After the shock of Princess Diana’s tragic death, and a series of seemingly unconnected events, she begins a quest to do good for others, finding romance along the way. The quintessential dreamer, Amélie is romantic and fun, and is loved by all who meet her. Shares stage kiss with the actor playing Nino. Mezzo-Soprano. Good mover/dancer.

Amélie’s overprotective and germaphobe father. After his wife Amandine dies, he creates a memorial to her from a garden gnome--which Amadine hated--so it makes him think of her. Amelie tries to coax him to leave the house but he doesn’t feel he can leave the Gnome unprotected…so Amelie steals it. Character is a doctor who finds young Amelie’s heartbeat with a stethoscope. May share an intimate moment (like hand holding) with the actor playing Suzanne. Baritone. Good mover/dancer.

Amadine PoulainFemale30-39 y.o.All ethnicities

Young Amélie’s overprotective mother. After her husband mistakenly diagnosed Amélie with a weak heart, Amadine decides to homeschool Amélie so that she is not overstimulated by playing with other children. After Amelie loses her best friend (a goldfish), Amandine takes her on a trip to Notre Dame to console her. Unfortunately, as they leave the cathedral Amandine is killed when a suicidal Belgian tourist jumps from a parapet, and falls on her. Mezzo-Soprano. Good mover/dancer.

Runs the Two Windmills Cafe where Amélie waitresses. She was once a trapeze artist who has a permanent limp after falling. She encourages Amélie to step out of her comfortable circle and strive for more. May share an intimate moment (like hand holding) with the actor playing Raphael Poulain. Comically lists STIs in a song. Walks with a limp. Mezzo-Soprano. . Good mover/dancer.

Is Amélie’s neighbor. He is known as “The Glass Man” because he suffers from a brittle bone disease. He is a painter, and proves himself a good friend to Amélie, encouraging her to go out to find adventure. He points out that while he must remain shut in his apartment, Amélie is making a choice to be alone. Baritone. Supporting Mover/Dancer.

A mysterious young man that Amélie first sees in the train station. They feel an immediate connection, but before they can speak to each other, Nino chases after another mysterious man, concerned with the photo booth in the station. This ignites a cat and mouse game as Amélie and Nino struggle to find each other and connect. Character works in a Sex Shop. Gives and receives sweet, light kisses with the actor playing Amélie on the eyelid, neck, face, and lips. Tenor. Supporting Mover/Dancer.

Philomene de NoirpoisFemale20-39 y.o.All ethnicities

Is a patron of the Two Windmills Cafe and airline stewardess. She, like so many others, is bored and waiting for something to happen in her life. After Amélie steals the memorial gnome from her father’s apartment, she gives it to Philomene, who takes it around the world with her, sending photographs of the gnome’s adventures to Amélie’s father. Joseph CottardMale30-39 y.o.All ethnicities

Is a regular patron of the Two Windmills Cafe, who once dated a waitress at the cafe, Gina Wells. He is a plumber, but is bored and disillusioned with his life, hanging onto bitterness, which makes him misogynistic. When Amélie realizes that Joseph is interested in Georgette, the hypochondriac tobacconist at the Two Windmills, she engineers a meeting between them.

Gina WellsFemale20-29 y.o.All ethnicities

A young waitress at the Two Windmills Cafe. She can’t move on after her husband dies in a plane crash while leaving her for another woman. Believing men are awful, she openly antagonizes her former lover, Joseph Cottard. Amélie pens a letter, supposedly from Gina’s husband, which allows Gina to finally get unstuck. Mezzo-Soprano. Supporting Mover/Dancer.

Georgette CornuelBoth genders20-39 y.o.All ethnicities

A true hypochondriac who works as the tobacconist at the Two Windmills Cafe. She shies away from most people, regularly sneezing and fretting over what it could mean. After seeing that Georgette and Joseph have a romantic spark, Amélie arranges a rendezvous. Character vocalizes off-stage to simulate sex. Mezzo-Soprano. Supporting Mover/Dancer.

Hipolito JeunetMale30-49 y.o.All ethnicities

A regular patron of The Two Windmills cafe. He is a lonely writer, waiting for his inspiration but dreaming of the day when he’ll walk into a bookstore and see his book on the shelf. Hipolito is writing a novel--which he calls a future failure--about a young man who journals about disasters yet to come in his life. This fear of disaster leads him to do nothing. While disillusioned, Hipolito is kind and appreciative of the people at The Two Windmills. Tenor-Baritone. Supporting Mover/Dancer.

FluffyMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Is young Amélie’s only friend and was originally played by an adult man with a fish headdress and fins. He is imagined larger than life and outside his bowl by young Amélie when she is supposed to be doing her lessons. When he falls out of his bowl, Amélie gets excited and anxious, and although Fluffy is saved, Amélie’s parents decide that he must go. Baritone. Featured Mover/Dancer.

CollignanMale40-49 y.o.All ethnicities

The local grocer who lived in Amélie’s apartment before she did. After Amélie finds a mysterious box in the floor, she sets out to return the box to the owner calling upon the curmudgeonly Collignan. He tends his fruit stand with employee Lucien Dufayel, whom he constantly berates. Uses belittling language to people he actually cares about. Non-singer. Featured Mover/Dancer.

Is Collignan’s childlike employee at the local grocery. He is simple and sweet, even naming and singing to the figs.. He sings to Amélie, which encourages her to become more open and friendly, and less shy and reserved. He is able to see Collignan’s goodness, even as Collignan berates him. Tenor. BretodeauMale40-50 y.o.All ethnicities

Was a child when he hid the box of “treasures” Amélie now finds in the floor of her apartment. When Amélie finds it, she goes on a mission to find him and return the box. Bretodeau is so moved by the memories, he remembers what is most important in life. He calls his ex-wife, whom he regrets not contacting sooner so that he might see his son. Featured Mover/Dancer.

Elton JohnFemale43-47 y.o.All ethnicities

Played by a member of the ensemble, Elton John appears to Amélie in her dream in which she is celebrated in an extravagant funeral like that of Princess Diana. Elton John calls her the “Godmother of the Unloved”--and while he and a gospel chorus of angels serenade Amélie, she decides that she will continue to do good, but should also be able to find love for herself. Photographed several times in Nino’s photo album--but Nino has no idea who he is and chases him several times to meet him. Eventually, in the finale, Nino realizes that the Mysterious Man is the photo booth repairman, who takes a picture of himself every time he repairs the booth.

A coworker of Nino’s at the sex shop. She is overjoyed when Amélie (dressed as a nun) arrives to return Nino’s photo album. Sylvie is friendly and enthusiastic, and will most likely be played by a member of the ensemble. Featured Mover/Dancer.

The GnomeMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

A garden ornament that Raphael Poulain uses to memorialize his wife after she dies, mostly because she hated it. Amélie, desperate to get her father out into the world, steals the gnome and sends it around the world with Philomene, an airline hostess. Most likely played by a member of the ensemble, the Gnome is lively and comedic, and describes his travels in the song “There’s No Place Like Gnome.” Tenor-Baritone. Featured Mover/Dancer.
