About the project: Play Synopsis: A comedy set in San Francisco’s Chinatown in 2015. American-born Chinese Lauren Yee hasn’t paid much attention to her cultural background — until her father disappears and she must navigate San Francisco’s Chinatown and face her history to get him back. She learns about her cultural traditions and how they relate to her modern American life. Additional information: Callbacks: October 19 from noon until 1:30pm. Rehearsals begin: October 24, 2024, and are normally Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons (November) which move to Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons (December onward) with some Saturdays. Note that we lose significant rehearsal time in late December. Those dancing the Lion Dance will attend lessons on Monday nights. Tech week begins January 26; prepare to be in the theatre every night. ACTORS WILL BE PORTRAYING ASIAN AMERICANS. The play is in English but many of the roles require a degree of fluency in Cantonese (Toy San will be acceptable at auditions). SPECIAL SKILLS – please mention if you practice Tai Chi, can play the Erhu, or have done Lion dance in the past. If you're interested, please apply.
