Casting Call for "A Christmas Story" Musical
Vocalists/actors/dancers for "A Christmas Story" show. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the breakdown below. Rate: Every eligible actor will receive a paid travel stipend at the end of the show’s run. Additional info: The theatre, when needed, will offer equity guest contracts to members of the union and contracts for professional actors. This is is an Equal Opportunity Theatre, and directors encourage performers of all ethnicities to audition. Please do not disqualify yourself on the basis of type, race, or physicality. Music from the show, scenes, or choreography will be taught at the night of auditions. Some performers may be asked to attend callbacks on the same night of their audition. Vocal sides will be sent in advance of the audition date, and after directors have confirmed your appointment. Rehearsal dates: October 13th- November 21st. Rehearsals are generally Sunday through Thursday 6:30 pm-10:30 pm). (Mandatory Tech Week: November 17th-2st) Performance Dates: November 22nd- December 15th (Friday- 8:00 pm show, Saturday- 2:00 pm & 8:00 pm shows, Sunday- 2:00 pm show) *NOTE* Directors may add additional performances including Thursday evenings at a later date. When applying, please include your SATB vocal part, preferred date and time (Sunday, September 22nd, 6 pm-10 pm or Monday, September 23rd, 6 pm-10 pm), and performer headshot. In person auditions will have first consideration of casting; however, performers traveling further than 90 miles from the theater may submit a virtual audition. If you would like to submit a Virtual Audition please include a Headshot, Theatre Resume, a Vocal Selection from the show, and Dance Reel (if applicable) by Saturday, September 21st. Please include if there are any specific roles you’d like to be considered for, if you would be willing to accept any other role, if you have any conflicts throughout the run, and if you would require housing if available.

Baritone (B3-Gb4). A guy with a good heart, though it is buried beneath a sometimes gruff (and rough) exterior. He’s a devoted husband and father who loves his family but doesn’t overtly show it. He usually expects the worst but is capable of excitement if the situation warrants (though it usually doesn’t). In his moments of fantasy, he is transformed from his usual grumbling blue-collar self to a true song and dance man. (Male Identifying).
Mezzo-Soprano (G3-D5). More in charge of the family than the Old Man is, but she would never let him know it. She is warm and affable… at times a bit daffy… but not a pushover. A vibrant woman, she is always busy, especially anytime she’s in the kitchen. She is the secret engine that keeps the family running, keeping the household together with an impressive balancing act. Alto (E3-G5), Dancer. The local elementary school teacher. A seemingly stereotypical 1940s educator – prim and proper. Stern when necessary, though warm – and even humorous – when the situation merits it. In Ralph’s fantasy, she becomes a dynamic, show-stopping, brassy belter and tap dancer; a force to be reckoned with. (Female Identifying).
Tenor (Db3-Bb4). The Santa Claus at Higbee’s Department Store is decidedly unlike the typical “Jolly Old Elf” of legend and lore. Ill-tempered and slightly inebriated, he is unhappy with his job. He dismisses each child as quickly as possible in an attempt to put an end to the day and, perhaps, head for the nearest “watering hole.” (Male Identifying).
