Theater Casting Call for "Other Desert Cities" Play

About the play: Set in the sun-soaked enclave of Palm Springs, Other Desert Cities follows an affluent and aging Republican couple as their adult daughter, a liberal-leaning writer, returns home with plans to expose a dark family secret. This gripping story, a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, skillfully navigates the complex dynamics of family loyalty, political divides, and buried truths. Rate: This is a Non-Union, Non-Paying production. Additional information: Callbacks: October 18th & 19th (October 20th as a possible third date if needed). Rehearsals Start: end of October/early November. Show Runs: January 22nd To February 5th 2025. Evenings, 8pm: Wed, Thurs, Friday & Saturday/ Matinees, 2 pm: Sundays Only. Kind and gentle patriarch. A Hollywood B actor with some celebrity and charm who turned that into political influence. He is conservative but with a sense of humour about himself and a deep love for his family.
Lyman’s wife. Graceful and acerbic matriarch. A whip-smart, forthright, and elegant woman. A socialite of her time, she is deeply devoted to the preservation of her social standing and her family’s image.
Lyman and Polly’s daughter. Strong willed and opinionated, she is a professional writer who has been living in New York after a mental breakdown. Her tortured relationship with her family has centred on her opposing Liberal political views.
Brook’s brother. Witty and self-effacing. A bright and funny man. He is a tv producer for reality TV. Trip is often the peacemaker who assumes the role of second banana with grace.
Polly’s sister. Creative, fragile, funny, and a mess. She is a former B movie writer, and the Bohemian, polar opposite of her sister. Haunted by her past decisions and grief, Silda resorts to drinking herself sick. She is currently staying with her sister Polly after just being released from a rehab.
