Singing Audition in Musical Production of "Cabaret"
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Directors are currently in need of performers for musical "Cabaret". See the details below. About the play: The scene is the Kit Kat Klub, a night club in Berlin, as the 1920s are drawing to a close. The Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience to the show and assures them that, whatever their troubles, they will forget them at the Cabaret. His songs will provide commentary throughout the show, as the world outside is slowly changing, not just in Berlin, but throughout Europe. A young American writer arrives in Berlin by train, and is immediately thrown into a world he was not expecting. He meets Ernst (a German who smuggles goods in and out of Berlin), and Sally Bowles (the feature performer of the Kit Kat Klub which whom he is instantly taken.) The Weimar Government’s lifting of censorship made the Berlin “Kabarett” a place of decadence, excitement, liberality, and sexuality. Cliff’s involvement grows quickly, and the relationships he makes will change his life forever. Rate: Non paying, non equity. Additional information: Please prepare a dramatic monologue (maximum two minutes), and a song from the musical theatre repertoire (not from this show). Please bring sheet music in the correct key for the accompanist, or a backing track (YouTube is fine). You may be asked to do some improvisation work with your text and/or song. No monologue? No problem. Just let Mandy know in the form and they can send you something. If you are called back for the show, you will be asked to attend the callbacks on Sunday September 29. There will be an additional dance callback for certain roles. Some of the roles will have selected music and text to prepare (will be emailed in advance). While this does not have to be memorized, it is important that you familiarize yourself with the material before the callback. Rehearsals will take place twice a week beginning on Sunday, October 6. Sundays are from 1:00-9:30pm (with a dinner break), and Wednesdays are from 7:00-10:30pm. Not everyone will be required for every rehearsal (schedule will be provided). There will be a break between Christmas and New Year’s, with schedule getting a little fuller towards the end of January (this will all be provided before the holiday). If you're interested, please apply.
