About the project: CABARET tells the story of Sally, an ambitious English singer who starts up a relationship with American writer Clifford Bradshaw as he observes the eccentric characters who populate the Kit Kat Klub in Berlin. Set between World War I and World War II, the growing unrest beyond the club’s doors is ever-present as the artists within express themselves through song. The musical features a score by Kander & Ebb made up of a string of songs that have become musical theatre mainstays, like “Willkommen,” “Don’t Tell Mamma,” “Mein Herr,” “Two Ladies,” “Tomorrow Belongs to Me,” and, of course, “Cabaret.” CABARET has long been a success both on the stage and screen and received ten TONY awards. The musical is based on John Van Druten’s 1951 play, I Am a Camera, and adapted from the 1939 novel Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood. Cabaret first hit Broadway in 1966 and was later turned into the 1972 film of the same name starring Oscar-winner Liza Minelli. Parental Warning: Adult Themes/Content. Additional info: Virtual auditions will be accepted: please see the attachment. Open call, no appointment needed. Seeking performers age 18 and up for principal and ensemble roles. Please prepare a 16-32 measure selection of a musical theater song in the style of the show. Please bring a device to play a track to accompany you. There will be no accompanist. In person auditions and callbacks will also include a dance piece taught by the director/choreographer. Dance heels and dance wear preferred for all dance roles but not mandatory. Please provide a headshot and resume, if available. Photos will be taken at the audition for those performers without headshots. Callbacks: Tuesday August 6th at 6:30 pm. Rehearsals will take place approximately 3 days a week usually consisting of two-week days and one weekend day. Rehearsals will start on the week of August 11th. All auditioners must be available for all rehearsals during the entire tech week (October 12th-17th) and for all performance dates (performance dates below).
