Casting Actors for "Much Ado About Nothing" Play
The company is holding auditions for "Much Ado About Nothing" Play and looking for actors, please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Rate: This production will be a non-AEA project, with several paid principal roles. Contracts will range from $100.00 – $300.00 depending on the role and experience. Additional info: Rehearsals for Much Ado About Nothing will begin in early August, with performances on October 3-6 and 10-13. Headshots and resumes are encouraged at the time of audition. It is preferred that actors have a one-minute monologue prepared; if you are interested in singing, a 16-bar song cut is adequate. Actors will also be given sides for cold reads. Beatrice: Leonato’s niece and Hero’s cousin. Beatrice is strong, independent, and speaks her mind. She loves to spar with Benedick verbally and intellectually.
A soldier who has recently been fighting under Don Pedro; a friend of Don Pedro and Claudio. He is a confirmed bachelor determined to avoid marriage. He is very challenged by Beatrice’s outspoken nature and her intellect.
A young soldier who has won great acclaim fighting under Don Pedro. They are the love interest of Hero.
The beautiful offspring of Leonato and the cousin of Beatrice. Hero is lovely, gentle, and kind and falls quickly in love with Claudio.
An important noble from Aragon, sometimes referred to as “Prince.” Don Pedro is generous, courteous, intelligent, and loving to their friends.
A respected, well-to-do, elderly noble at whose home, in Messina, Italy, the action is set. Leonato is the parent of Hero and the aunt/uncle of Beatrice. The second most powerful noble in Messina, second to Don Pedro.
The illegitimate sibling of Don Pedro, who is jealous and brooding. They are the villain of the play,
Hero’s serving person, who unwittingly helps Borachio and Don John deceive Claudio into thinking that Hero is unfaithful.
An associate of Don John. Borachio is the lover of Margaret. They conspire with Don John to trick Claudio and Don Pedro into thinking that Hero is unfaithful to Claudio.
One of Don John’s more intimate associates, entirely devoted to Don John.
The constable in charge of the Watch, or chief policeman, of Messina. Dogberry is very sincere and takes their job seriously, but they have a habit of using exactly the wrong word to convey his meaning. He provides much of the comic relief in the play.
The deputy to Dogberry, chief policeman of Messina. Along with Dogberry, has an overblown sense of self-importance.
Leonato’s elderly sibling and Hero’s uncle/aunt.
A waiting person in Leonato’s household and a musician. Balthasar provides much of the music in the show.
