Actors Needed for "Mary Poppins" Play Audition
The theater is holding auditions for the "Mary Poppins" production. More details are provided below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible stories, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, and astonishing stagecraft, as the beloved Disney film is brought to life on stage. Additional info: Auditions will consist of performing a song, learning a dance, and reading selections from the script. Audition materials, including songs, dance videos, and selections from the script. Rehearsals will begin with a read-through on Sunday, August 18, and actors will be called up to four times per week, depending on their roles. Show dates are Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees from November 1 through 23, with the addition of a show on Thursday, November 21. (Lead) – Jane and Michael Banks’s new nanny. A mezzo soprano with strong top notes, she should be able to move well. She can have a more traditional soprano sound, but precision and diction is the key.
(Lead) – The narrator of the story, he is a good friend to Mary Poppins. An everyman, Bert has many occupations, including sidewalk artist and chimney sweep. He should be able to sing and move well.
(Lead) – The father to Jane and Michael Banks, he is a banker to the very fiber of his being. George may speak-sing as necessary.
(Lead) – George’s wife and Jane and Michael’s mother. She has great warmth and simplicity to her singing tone.
(Lead) – The high-spirited daughter of Mr. and Mr. Banks; she is bright and precocious but can be willful.
(Lead) – The cute and cheeky son of Mr. and Mrs. Banks; he is excitable and can be naughty.
(Feature) – The housekeeper and cook for the Banks family. She has a strong personality with well-defined opinions. Some solo singing lines.
(Feature) – A servant for the Banks family. He is clumsy, which will be portrayed through slapstick, movement, and falling. He has a few solo singing lines.
(Feature) – George’s overbearing and scary former nanny. A soprano with an alto belt, there can be some heaviness to her voice along with range. Sings, “Brimstone and Treacle.”
(Feature) – The head of the bank where Mr. Banks is employed. He can speak/sing his lines if necessary.
(Featured Singer) – A homeless person who sings “Feed the Birds.”
(Featured Singer) – Owns a magical gingerbread shop and sings “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
(Featured Dancer) – A statue in the park that comes to life to dance and sing.
(Featured Dancer) – A toy clown doll who comes to life to dance and sing.
Additional Featured Dancers – Based on the dance auditions, directors may cast additional featured dancers from within the ensemble, who will dance solo or in small groups.
