About the project: “Sha la la, Joseph, you’re doing fine! You and your dreamcoat, ahead of your time!” Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is an over-the-top reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers, and a coat of many colors. Told entirely through song with the help of the Narrator, this musical comedy follows preferred son Joseph as he discovers his ability to interpret dreams. Through Joseph’s trials and his remarkable gift for interpreting dreams, he rises to become Pharaoh’s second-in-command, guiding Egypt through times of famine and plenty. Written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, this magical musical is full of iconic pop and musical theatre classics: “Any Dream Will Do,” “Close Every Door To Me,” and “Go Go Joseph.” Additional info: Show Dates: Sept 20 – Oct 6 2024 At the audition, auditionees should wear clothing and footwear suitable for movement, and will be asked to sing a short selection from the show (sheet music and a reference recording will be sent to you when your audition time is confirmed)! Strong rock singing voice (high belt to E full range Mezzo), good with comedy, and moves well. The narrator is our host for the story. Excellent singer and storyteller.
(Tenor with range of Low A to High G). Strong singer/dancer/actor. Eleventh son of Jacob and Jacob’s favorite. Confident, charming.
(Baritone, Low A to C). Jacob is the father of Joseph and his 11 brothers. Strong actor in their 50s-60s, who can sing and move reasonably well. (possible double with POTIPHAR)
(Baritone, Low B to High G#). Pharaoh is the most powerful man in Egypt, and desperately searching for the truth in his dreams. Elvis Presley impersonator type. (possible double with LEVI)
Possible double with PHAROAH
Male or gender non-conforming performer, (Baritone, Vocal Range D to B). A rich, self-indulgent capitalist who buys Joseph as a servant. Strong actor/singer. (possible double with JACOB)
Strong Dancer. Also part of the ensemble.

At a minimum, the Ensemble will feature at least 11 Female or gender non-conforming performers to play the wives of Joseph’s brothers. The ensemble also serve as the many other characters in Joseph’s story. The Ensemble may also include additional Male performers, depending on audition turnout. All ensemble performers should be competent actors, singers, and dancers. Note: there are some featured scenes for very strong dancers in this show.
