About the project: SYNOPSIS: Evita, composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice, is a sung-through musical based on the life of Maria Eva Duarte de Perón, a poor Argentinian girl who grows up to be the wife of the president of Argentina in the 1940s/early 1950s. As a young woman who longs for an acting career, fame and fortune, Eva learns that her feminine wiles hold power among a culture and a political system run by men. As First Lady of Argentina, she becomes a hero to the poor and working class and an enemy of the rich. Che, a young, unknown revolutionary, narrates the rise and fall of her tragically short life. Rate: Not a paid opportunity. Additional info: Directors would love to have a diverse cast – all ethnicities welcome! Be prepared to sing 32 bars of a contemporary musical song. You may bring sheet music or tracks (no a cappella). Everyone will be taught a dance combination, so be prepared to move. Bring a headshot and resume, if available. Call-backs will be Tuesday, December 5th for the roles of Eva, Che, Perón, Magaldi and Mistress. Performance Dates: Shows run February 9th - 25th. Rehearsals will begin January 2nd. Leading role. Mezzo Soprano, strong belt mix, E3-G5. Eva is a beautiful, ambitious and power-seeking woman who rises to become the spiritual leader of Argentina by the age of 26 until her untimely death at 33. She must be able to project toughness and charisma. She uses her sexuality to build power. The actress playing this role must be a trained vocalist with strong vocal stamina and control. She must also be able to dance. *Be familiar with the song Rainbow High for callbacks.
Leading role. Rock Tenor, A2-A4. Che is the narrator of the show. He’s a young political activist and devil’s advocate for the people of Argentina who reveals the real character and motivations of Eva. He must be a strong singer/actor who can move well. *Be familiar with the song “Oh What a Circus” for callbacks.
Leading role. Baritone, G#2-F#4. Peron is an officer in the Argentinean army who rises, driven by his wife Eva, to become the Argentine president. He is dignified, charming and authoritative. He should be a strong actor/singer. Able to move, but is not a dancing role. *Be familiar with the song “On the Balcony of the Casa Rosada” for callbacks.
Supporting role. Baritone/Tenor, D3-G4. Magaldi is a tango singer with whom Eva has her first love affair. He has the first big number of the show, singing at a club in Eva’s hometown. She convinces him to take her to Buenos Aries. He is showy and flamboyant. This actor will also be in the ensemble for some numbers. Moves well. *Be familiar with the song “On This Night of a Thousand Stars” for callbacks.
Supporting role. Soprano, A3-E5. The Mistress is a very beautiful, fragile, vulnerable young woman who plays Juan Perón’s teenaged lover. She is dismissed out of Perón’s life by Eva, and she ponders the rejection with her featured song. She must be comfortable to perform in a slip or nightgown. She will also be in the ensemble. *Be familiar with the song “Another Suitcase in Another Hall” for callbacks.
For the men and women of Argentina, directors are seeking a broad range of males and females. The men will also play generals of the Argentinian army. There are many small roles and small group songs. The ensemble appears in nearly every song. Choral singing experience is a plus.
Seeking a group of dancers to be featured in some of the bigger numbers. All dancers will sing as well.
