Male-identifying. Strong velvety baritone voice in the Sinatra mode. He sings many of the Sinatra standards and should have an incredible vocal instrument with a feel for Sinatra’s unusual phrasing and distinctive vocal style. Able to sing close harmonies. Ideally, this character projects the style and easy sophistication that was the Sinatra trademark WITHOUT DOING ANY SORT OF PHYSICAL OR VOCAL IMITATION of the man. Great dancer/Strong mover desired. Male-identifying. 1940’s big band “crooner” type with All-American boy good looks and a strong legit lyric baritone voice. Sings up to a G. Should have a natural and unaffected flair for comedy as he carries much of the show’s humor and lighter moments. He spends much of the show trying to learn how to be “cool.” Dances or moves well. Female-identifying. Strong mezzo soprano who can also belt. Vocal style is based on great “torch singers” like Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, and Judy Garland. Sings through a wide range, vocally, and must also be a capable part singer. A dark, smoky, husky sound is preferred. Dances or moves well. "My Way"

Big band singer sound of the 40’s - also a mezzo but does sing some soprano parts. Voice should be lighter and provide a contrast to the darker sound required for Woman #1. Female-identifying. Carole’s mother. Once an aspiring playwright, she has been broken down by life and her divorce from Carole’s father. She projects these feelings onto Carole but is protective of her and occasionally knows the right thing to say. Non-singing role. "Beautiful"
