About the project: Logline: In the back corner of a trashy roadside diner, Elliot Crane relives his last meal with his only son: a quiet night, a game of chess, and an inevitable checkmate. The match becomes a psychological battlefield as Elliot desperately tries to win, forcing his son home, where he can be controlled and manipulated. Additional info: A non union casting call. A widowed father in his mid-40s. A cold, calculating businessman who's need for control masks grief and guilt. Absent father turned primary caretaker made Elliot overbearing and manipulative in his pursuit of a legacy. The realization that his son cannot be controlled and the memory of his wife drives Elliot to murder his only son, as legacy without control is doomed to fail. Upon entrapment in Saturn's Diner Elliot is forced to relive this day eternally.
A young man in his mid-20s who carries the warmth and moral conviction of his late mother, but bears his father's intensity. He has grown resentful of his father, and left home after mis mother's passing to prove him wrong. The day of his death, he enters the diner seeking apology and expecting growth that was never an option.
