Have you ever felt as if your life... which is just fine, really... but, damnit.... just wasn’t good enough! You were sure there was something more you were meant to do, that there must be something more? Well then you just may relate to Becky Foster.... Written by Steven Dietz, “Becky’s New Car” has a unique take on the midlife crisis, as it centers on, not a middle-aged man but a woman this time.... the average American housewife with a full time job, struggling to make the ends meet and keep up with the housework, a roofer husband and an adult son living in the basement at the same time! And when this woman is offer the opportunity to answer the question, “Is that it? Is that all there is?” she can’t resist.... Additional info: Rehearsals: Rehearsals (6:30-9:30, Sundays 6-9) January 12, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, 30 February 3, 4,5,6, 10, 11, 12,13 17, 18, 19, 20, AND February 22, 23, 24, 25,26, 27 Performances: February 28th through March 16th. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script – no need to prepare anything however monologues are welcomed. She is a wife and mother who works at a car dealership and feels her life missing something. She is a high energy, intelligent woman, maybe a bit manic. Becky speaks directly with the audience.
Becky’s husband. He is a roofer, strong and smarter than he looks. He is a loyal family man with a big heart.
Becky and Joe’s son. He lives in the basement. He is a graduate student studying psychology. Very intelligent and a bit lazy. The modern American Millennial.
A businessman, very wealthy and recent widowed. He is charming and gentle, and needy. He is naive when it comes to woman.
Walter’s daughter. She is a cynical and smart, a bit spoiled and down to earth.
Walter’s single neighbor who has recently lost all of her money and status. She is jaded and lonely, frank and funny. She’s on is husband hunting.
A recently widowed co-worker of Becky’s and family friend. He is neurotic, prone to emotional out burst and completely clueless. A nice guy despite his awkwardness.
Becky’s inner reflection/personal stage manager/audience and understudy. This role will evolve during rehearsals.
