Casting Call for the "Spelling Bee" Show
The upcoming theatre play "Spelling Bee" looks for performers. See the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Additional info: - Fee required. - The audition will consist of 16-32 bars of a song in the spirit of the show and/or the character for whom you are auditioning. Please bring sheet music in the appropriate key. - An accompanist will be provided. - REHEARSALS: We begin rehearsals on Saturday, March 11th. Rehearsals are generally on Saturdays from 9a-12p and Mondays/Wednesdays from 7p-10p. Cast members may be called the entire time or for just a portion of a rehearsal. Not everyone will be called for every rehearsal. - Sitzprobe -- Wed, 5/24 (7p-10p) - Tech Day -- Sat, 5/27 (8a-3p) - Dress Rehearsals -- Mon, 5/29 - Thurs, 6/1 - Show Dates -- Fri, 6/2 (7:30p), Sat, 6/3 (2p & 7:30p), and Sun, 6/4 (2p) - Please find the attachment for the character breakdown and other additional info. The youngest of the contestants. Ambitious, motivated, politically-aware. She lives with her two dads. Speaks with a lisp. A3-F5
Has ADHD. Awkward, cheerful. Just happy to be there. Goes into a trance when he spells. A3-A5
Loud, defensive, arrogant, he finds his kind side in his budding friendship with Olive.. A finalist in last year’s bee, he was eliminated due to an unfortunate peanut allergy. He suffers from a host of health problems. E4-B5
Over-achieving, deadpan. She does not show emotion easily. She speaks six languages and excels at everything. Usually played by an AAPI performer. C4-E5 (If auditioning for Marcy Park, we’d like to see whatever special skills you have: juggling, instrumental, baton-twirling, martial arts, etc.)
Sensitive, shy. She is the neglected child of busy parents who has found comfort in the dictionary. B3-F5
Putnam County’s top realtor and a former spelling bee champion. Firm but kind. She is passionate about the bee. B3-F5
The judge for the bee. Frustrated with his life, infatuated with Rona Lisa. Strong comic timing and improv skills required. Non-singing.
A former convict who is working off his community service by handing out juice boxes at the bee. Gruff but not unkind. E4-A5
A separate ensemble of 3-4 performers to play the supporting roles. LEAF’S MOM, LEAF’S DAD, CARL DAD, DAN DAD, JESUS, OLIVE’S MOM and OLIVE’S DAD.
