"The Guardsman" & "The Last 5 Years" Shows Needs Performers

About the shows: " The Guardsman", by Ferenc Molnar, directed by Kevin McKendrick. "The Last 5 Years" Synopsis: Drama Desk award-winner The Last Five Years is Jason Robert Brown’s intimate window into a couple’s doomed marriage. Cathy, a struggling actor, and Jamie, a budding novelist on the brink of wild success, are 20-somethings in New York who meet, fall in love, marry, and divorce over the span of five years. Cathy tells the story from the end of their marriage; Jamie begins from when they first meet. As the musical unfolds, Cathy moves backward in time to the beginning of the relationship as Jamie moves toward the end; they meet only once, in the middle, at their wedding. Additional information: Performers from all equity-deserving communities are strongly encouraged to submit. SUBMISSION DEADLINE FEB 13. All actors must be comfortable with text of a classic nature, while able to play broad comedy. For the auditions, please prepare two contrasting comic pieces, one contemporary, and one classic in nature. Classic could apply to Shakespeare or Chekov or Wilde, or even Neil Simon. "The Guardsman" show. Helene is a star, she is the toast of Budapest and Café Society. She has many suitors. Vivacious and quick-witted; she has been married to Victor for six months, following a long series of tempestuous and torrid affairs.
Victor is Helene’s husband of six months. He is a considerable talent at the height of his career in 1910 Budapest. He is able to play high comedy as well as Hamlet. He is a self-assured and charismatic actor. Victor disguises himself as a Russian Guardsman to test his wife’s loyalty. For "The Guardsman" play
Dr Mezei is a man of letters in a literary time. Well educated and affluent by all appearances, he is a gentleman and has long been in love with Helene. He may be a bachelor or a widower. For "The Guardsman" play
Once Helene’s chaperone and guide, she now serves in the capacity of the housekeeper for Helene and Victor. She can be shrewish, and self-pitying. Hungarian or European. For "The Guardsman" play
She is on call at all hours, day or night. She is paid little, but has a roof over her head and three square meals a day. The Usherette In her 40’s. She works in the theatre. Maybe she once had designs on being an actor? This is a character role, present only in Act 2. For "The Guardsman" play
The Debt Collector is hired by his firm to run down debts owed by actors. He is passionate about the theatre, and idolizes both Helene and Victor. He is energetic, almost puppyish, and easily distracted from his task. For "The Guardsman" play
