REHEARSALS BEGIN December 27, 2022 (approximately) PERFORMANCE DATES February 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 – 2023 - Prepare a 1–2-minute contemporary musical theatre song (preferably a ballad) for the primary audition and bring a second selection as a backup. A piano accompanist will be provided. Please do not audition with a song from the show. - Bring a headshot and resume if you have one. - Wear loose clothing that is comfortable to move in. Bring a list of all potential conflicts including travel, etc. Any conflicts with the posted schedule must be discussed and agreed to by the Director before casting can be confirmed. COVID-19 PROTOCOL – All participants must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a written exemption with a negative COVID test taken within 48 hours of the audition time. A beautiful Italian immigrant, generous, luminous, and funny, now married to a farmer and living in Iowa. Francesca was brought to America after World War II, a war bride escaping a defeated Italy. She is equally compassionate and motherly with her family but now finds herself longing for the passions of her native country when she was a young girl. Speaks with a light Southern Italian dialect. Must possess great range and depth as both as an actor and a singer. Soprano.
A ruggedly handsome, worldly, visionary photographer. He travels the world on assignment for National Geographic Magazine and has done so for 20+ years. Although married once, his vagabond existence makes him reticent of connecting too closely with anyone in order that neither he nor his partner does not get emotionally hurt. A commanding, yet gentle, presence, Robert believes he doesn’t fit the modern world and that his is a type that will soon become extinct. Strong Baritone.
Baritone. Francesca's husband who she met during World War II. An Iowa farmer, a good guy, diligent and dependable, but always exhausted and irritated that things haven't gotten easier. A “Salt of the Earth” individual who puts his family first and has not expectations for anything he hasn’t earned by hard work. A baritone able to sing in a country folk/rock style.
Mezzo soprano with a warm folk sound. Robert's former wife. A musician who reminisces in song about her short, married life with the photographer many years ago. Ability to play guitar is a plus for this role.
Alto. Francesca’s next-door neighbor, sassy and nosy….and the comic relief of the play. However, Marge does shows genuine concern about her friend, Francesca, during the latter stages of the play.
Bass. Marge's easy-going husband who endures his wife’s peccadillos with humor and patience.
Francesca's fun-loving sister who still lives in Italy.(This role will come from the ensemble.)
