"A Christmas Story" Needs Girls & Boys
Kids ages 6+ are needed for "A Christmas Story" Show. Please see the details below. About the project: Based on the classic movie, humorist Jean Shepherd’s memoir of growing up in the Midwest in the 1940's follows young Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher, and even Santa Claus himself at Higbee’s Department Store. The consistent response: “You’ll shoot your eye out!” All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family’s temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys’ experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg in a net stocking; Ralphie’s fantasy scenarios and more. A Christmas Story is a holiday tradition for the whole family! Additional info: Prepare a one-minute monologue or tell a story in one minute. 15 roles
Male presenting. An older, wiser, and warmly reminiscent adult version of Ralphie; functions as the story’s narrator, must be able to memorize large portions of the script. Looking for a strong actor who conveys warmth and wisdom.
Male presenting. The Parker family’s beleaguered patriarch is a grumpy, yet good-hearted father with a penchant for highly original language, much of which is nonsensical. Has a deeply held desire to be a winner.
Female presenting. A patient parent with firm convictions – in particular, the conviction that her son should not own an air rifle. It takes a lot to ruffle her feathers. Comic timing and ability to work well with young children are important talents for this role.
Female presenting. Ralphie’s kind, and sometimes very dramatic, teacher. She’s also an integral component of his campaign for, and eventual obstacle to, the perfect Christmas gift.
Male presenting. A cross between Roy Rogers and the Marlboro Man, without the smokes. Cowboy hero to all grade-school boys, a straight shooter, and full of campfire wisdom.
Once a semi-successful car salesman, but took a seasonal side gig working the local Christmas tree lots. In one brief scene, but can be a chance for a memorable cameo.
Male presenting. A jolly ol’ elf, most of the time. Perhaps he’s had just one too many kids sitting on his lap.
Local townsperson, delivers the “major award.”
Male presenting. Radio personality; cameo role
