About the project: Log-line: A woman feeling lost in life next to her financially successful friends suddenly finds herself stuck in the backrooms, a space of endless hallways, rooms, and creatures outside of time and reality. She must either find a way to escape, or be consumed permanently by this void. The Backrooms is an urban legend describing an endless maze of randomly generated office rooms and other environments. Since its original creation in 2019, The Backrooms has been expanded into various other forms of media and Internet culture, including video games, collaborative fiction wikis, and YouTube videos. Lead. A young adult who has fallen into a rut working full time at a restaurant, a job that is far from the priorities & goals she once had for her life. In the absence of a priority that matters to her, Amelia has shied away & become more quiet. This is only amplified by the feelings evoked when she is visited by friends of hers who have become more successful financially in life. Amelia still has a drive inside of her, but it lies buried under self doubt, waiting for something to activate it.
Supporting. There is no place left in the world it seems for Jean Jacket. Grungy, with a style evoking emo, Jean has felt lost for a very long time. With no family in a position to support her, and her friends and relationships having fallen apart; Jean found the backrooms as a safe haven where she could become lost in her own thoughts. Having given up in the real world though, her downfall will be allowing herself to succumb to the feelings that made her feel lost in the first place.
Supporting. Dave has started a successful career for himself at a corporate law firm. He worked hard to get where he is and takes a lot of pride in his work. Amelia and Dave had some history in the past and split due to distance, but she will always carry a special place in his heart. Dave will always support and push Amelia to follow her dreams.
Supporting. Mike is a true charismatic entrepreneur. He has made a career for himself in stocks and real estate at a pretty young age, and he makes sure that everyone know it. Mike is always looking for a good time and is very extroverted and boastful. This has made him successful in business, but is also a great personal flaw of his because of how arrogant he can come off.
Supporting. Like Mike and Dave, Carol has started to build a professional career for herself working in business. Entering the workforce she is in as a woman, Carol does feel a greater need to prove herself to her coworkers and peers. To her friends, she wants to showcase that all of her hardwood as paid off, and will often wear lots of jewelry to do so. Amelia is an old friend of hers, but she has begun to drift apart from her due to having more solid career aspirations.
